So I added a bunch of books at the bottom of the forum pages.  If a person actually buys a book, I get a kickback from amazon - usually about a dollar.  I tried to put some comments into the hover text for each book.  I could add more - but I'm not sure if that would just become annoying or be of some value.

But!  Another cool perk:  if you follow an amazon link and buy something else, I get a kickback for that too!

Somebody from permies followed a link and then went and bought some super fancy-pants camera and I got something like $25!  Wow!

Permies.com still runs in the red, but I like idea that some day it might run in the black.

So Paul, since I am semi rural and find that I do buy from Amazon from time to time, if I go to their site through this link you are rewarded for the sale?

Yes!

So if you click on the first link, and then go buy something else, I get some sort of kickback.  Although they have so many rules and stuff I just don't bother to keep up anymore.  There are some things that are a smaller kickback and there are some things where there is no kickback.  But for the most part, it seems I get a little something.

Somebody bought a camera and I got $11!  Suh-weet!  Thanks to whoever did that!

There have been a few other purchases too.  Thanks folks!  My all time total for that is now $15.  Not bad!

If it's already in my cart will you get a kickback if I follow the link? At some point in the next few months I'm planning on buying an expensive satchel and I'd be more than happy to follow your link and do things that way, You might also check on Kindle books. I buy about a book a week. I have a serious sickness.

Your post is riddled with stuff that is right on the border - stuff I don't know.

Stuff already in your cart:  I have no idea.

Kindle books:  the last time I saw a kindle book on the report it said that the kickback to me was $0.00.  All kindle books show up that way.  And then I got an email from amazon about three days ago saying that they are now paying the rate they pay for other stuff.  So .... hellifiknow.

In the last few days somebody bought a lawn mower through those links!  I got $25!  Wow!  Those things are so worth it!

Well when I'm ready to make the purchase I'll send you a pm (because I know how much you love those) and we will find out together, or would you rather I just remove everything from my cart and hunt it down so you are more likely to get the kickback? Maybe I could try with something smaller... that would be a good excuse to get the Kleen Kanteen I've been eying ... well this is all speculation until I get my debit card straightened out.

Supposing that we figure out the answer.  What are we gonna do with the information?  I think if we tell folks it could just get confusing and make things sound more complicated that they really are.

I'm fiddling with a new amazon widget gizmo that should do the same thing only it won't be as big and bulky.

I usually have about a dozen windows from permies open at any time.  And with the new gizmo, my computer is sometimes brought to a crawl.  Anybody else experiencing that?

That's what's been doing it. My computer isn't great but I'd been wondering what had locked it up four times today.

Grrrrr ....

Okay, I found a different widget that looks a lot less fancy.  Less fancy should mean that it doesn't hog the CPU!

The thing that irks me is that I spent so much time filling out that first widget!

There, I just added graphics back.

This version is smaller, faster and doesn't have all of the problems that the others had.

This past week as I started reading Toby Hemenway's Gaia's Garden, which I bought because of Paul's podcast and Youtube video featuring Toby, I thought to myself: "I wish Paul was an Amazon affiliate so he get kickbacks from by purchase". Now today, I was just listening to Paul's podcast #183-Behind the Scenes and realized that he was an Amazon affiliate. Darn! I wish I knew before, there are at least two purchases I did recently because of the podcast (Sepp's book and Toby) for which Paul could have gotten a kickback (probably small). Sorry Paul, now I know where to go (Richsoil book section).

On another note, I don't know if this would be against the Permies' look and feel, but, maybe it would be good to put a banner at the top that says something like: "Contribute to Paul's Permaculture Empire...Read!" or simply have few menus at the top of the forum a bit like at the top of Wordpress blogs. Just a thought, I know Permies' staff is busy.

Funny. I just wrote a post to try and find a way to get banners for my stuff.

But, yes, if I had a good banner for the books page, I would put it in rotation at the top.
