Why ham radio?

I think it would be interesting to have a workshop on permaculture tools. It could cover what tools are useful for different types of sites/projects, how to use, and how to maintain them.

Based on your DVD-what would you fund- post, Here are my four choices:

1. Earthworks, ponds, swales, hugelkultur, tefa. How to shape land to be warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. 3 DVDs.
2. Introducing a creek where there currently is no creek. 4 dvds.
3. Paddock shift and chickens. Including stuff to plant, portable coops, breeds, tricks and tips .... 3 dvds /paddock shift for pigs. 2 dvds
4. farmstead meatsmith pork. 3 dvds / farmstead meatsmith beef. 2 dvds / farmstead meatsmith poultry. 3 dvds

I hope that counts as 4 choices and not as 7

Since you're the mastermind behind this, I'd think of what DVDs would work as a series, and start with the beginning. For example, I'd buy the "introducing the creek" dvd immediately, however, it might make more sense to do a video set on Earthworks, ponds, swales, etc. knowing that it is a primary building block for "introducing a creek." Or that Paddock shift pork might make more sense to do before farmstead meatsmith pork.

Gah, should have said that my bonus selection (and number 1 selection) is.....

5. porta kitchen (outdoor kitchen on skids). Plus the j-tube rocket stove enhancement to make it an outdoor, portable canning kitchen. 3 dvds.

The idea came from a talk given by Albert Bates from "The Farm". In it he talks about the importance of a community having a "foreign policy" and the role HAM radio played in it. I do admit however, it was a bit of a stretch.

These votes helped us focus our workshops for 2014 - thank you everyone for the input. So far we have scheduled:

March 21-23, 2014 - world domination gardening workshop for Kickstarter supporters
June 16-20, 2014 - solar workshop
June 30-July 26, 2014 - wofati workshop
September 2014 RMH workshops & gatherings:
-Sep 19-21 Rocket Mass Heater Workshop
-Sep 22-26 Pyronaut Laboratory 1
-Sep 26-28 Advanced Rocket Stove Workshop
-Sep 29 to Oct 3 Pyronaut Laboratory 2

August 2014 - dates and details yet to be finalized:
-structural cob workshop
-artistic earthen finishes: finish plasters, earthen floors, other artistic cob

We had hoped to include two others this spring: an intro to permaculture food systems workshop, and a woodland management workshop, though we have delayed those for now.

So many great topics! I'm definitely in for the porta-kitchen -> rocket canning kitchen, Bees (anything) and anything to do with water in more arid environments.

Our 2014 schedule turned out slightly different than we expected. We reduced the RMH events to just one weekend and one week with innovators, which is still going on! Folks have really enjoyed having the extra time with the innovators this week.

For 2015, we are considering taking a year off from workshops (unless someone else wants to put on something here and all we need do is provide the space).

We plan to continue to improve our facilities and infrastructure, work on food systems and aesthetics, and otherwise gear up for 2016. Which is when we think we might be able to provide an amazing buffet of hands on learning in July 2016. Stay tuned.
Staff note (Jocelyn Campbell) :

In 2015 we did have some workshops! First, the ant village pdc: https://permies.com/t/46645/permaculture-projects/Free-PDC-deep-roots-ants;
next, the rmh innovators: https://richsoil.com/rmh-innovators.jsp and the rmh
forum thread: https://permies.com/t/44671/rocket-mass-heater-pyronaut-event.
