I've never had a FB account, but I'm starting a business, so this is interesting to me.

My husband, my dad, and I are the only people I know not on FB. I read that about 60% of active internet users use FB, and 180 million people in the US.

I just wanted to mention that I look at business FB pages all the time without logging in. Access is limited, but I can see their...main page? I don't know FB terminology.  Heather Staas posted a link to her page on the other thread. That link brought me to a log in page. However, when I searched for K9 capers, my search engine brought me to three different businesses by that name on FB, and I was able to see them all. Is finding it through a search engine different somehow? That seems crazy, but...

Search engines work in peculiar ways....I don't know all the ins and outs but it can depend on your search history, the search history of your computer (and it seems, related computers! I get strange things coming up sometimes according to what my husband has been looking at even though we're on a virtual private network), also the weighting of the site you're looking for. That's one reason I'm not so keen on google as a search engine:they weight according to who pays them the most and which are the most popular sites, just as much as which is the best match for your search terms.
I too have a dislike for sites that make you sign up before showing you stuff. One reason that I don't use Pinterest is because it doesn't allow browsing without a login. Facebook is not for every business. It didn't seem to work for me, but it could work for a more online sales type business, or one which needs the meeting and calendar function that FB does so well, as mentioned above. Maybe someone has an alternative that is easy to access/use and allows calendar sharing?
