It is getting to that time of year when the ground starts to thaw and before everything starts to grow that you can see what needs to be picked up.

I went up to the lab yesterday to start marking out the spot for ant village.

I stopped by the pooper because ... well, I NEEDED to! Yuck. I thought people were going to upgrade it. The pooper needs a good cleaning and it needs several days of love.

I stopped by the tipi and beehut. There was garbage on the ground (the snow is melting and dropped things are now showing themselves) and a whole lot of trees that had been dropped, but the logs need to be moved. The straw on the beehive needs care. Jocelyn pulled the blankets out of the tipi to wash them. I think it would be good to give the tipi a thorough cleaning to prepare for whoever stays in it next.

I saw several logs at the lab where I wondered "why is that there?" and why are lots of logs covered in plastic?

All four electric vehicles need repair. Ranger doug needs an oil change and a few things. The shop needs some love to put tools where they go.

Nearly everywhere I went there are messes to clean up and projects that went wonky.

Yes, we do have a lot of great things here now. And those things need care. And there are new things to do.

Tim will be giving the excavator, the millennium falcon (kenworth dump truck), ellie mae (2 ton dump truck) and the 20 ton trailer maintenance and upgrades over the next several weeks.

The fence around the house at basecamp is started. Lots of materials are here. We can plant now, but without the fence, the turkey and the deer will wipe everything out.

The garage needs a full overhaul.

Jocelyn has been cleaning the house non-stop for the last several days. It sounds like she has about two more weeks to go. She is finding dishes and flatware in all sorts of odd places.

It is the end of a 20-month-long party. And now it is time to clean and tidy.

When people come out as gappers, this is not the sort of thing they really want to do. And yet, I think that will be the focus for the months to come. Therefore, I expect that gappers probably won't want to come out here just now.

Gapper should come with a self sacrificing spirit. We all like new and exiting things to do and learn but some times the old lessons are more important, like put things in place for efficient output and clean as you go.

It's a pleasure to see superheros taking such an interest in science. And this tiny ad:
