I understand that this E.coli strain may have come from steam.  Even though this is organic, you have to be careful where your sources of come from.

Quote: "He said it is possible that the water had been contaminated with E. coli or that the sprout seeds — purchased in Germany and other countries — already contained the bacteria. He said the farmers had not used any manure, which has been known to cause E. coli outbreaks."

Various outlets from governments to media to scientists seem to be releasing all sorts of random and unconfirmed stuff, then retracting whatever it was they said.
My first thoughts are "told you so, industrial food system...crap..." etc,  but I think there's an awful lot more stuff to come out.
NZ growers are getting a bit excited at the thought of posting onions and kiwifruit to Russia. Food security and all that.

First they said it was Spanish cucumbers and now german bean sprouts.
I saw a documentary about North Corea that took me right out of my comfort zone. One thing that they did to poltical prisoners acording to a woman who denounced the regime to those who made the program, political prisioners means poor folk they thought weren't communist enough, was to poison them with lettuce leaves as a experiment in biological warfare. The woman who told the story said that she had to go through a room giving lettuce leaves to all the people present and before she left she saw the  people bleading from all their orifices at least those connected to the digestive system.  That is what this type of e coli tha has been killing people in germany is meant to do to people. I saw several documentaries on Niorth Corea in one night, as far as I can remember and one at anyrate was a documentary by Spanish journalists.
The other horrible story was that the prision guards were experimenting with a family killing off the whole family if i remember right with some lillness, when they saw that the parents tried to help their ill child were suprised, they had imagined this sort of ememy of the people were totally heartless. The mind is strange you can persuade one set of people that another set that in theory has different political veiws, is not human. agri rose macaskie.

I did not see the documentary on Korea that you saw, but I do not believe the German government was an active protagonist in the E. coli outbreak if that is what your implying.  They have however identified the German farm as the source of the outbreak through genetic testing of the samples retrieved.  Genetic testing is incredibly reliable in this case particularly because this is a new strain of E. coli.

No I am not implying any such thing about the german government though biological warfare is a pursuit that is bound to lead to some escapes from the laboratories of some illness and it is hard to imagine that governments dont indulge in the development of biological weapons. I am saying that it might be king jon il who has done something to create and outbreak of this version of E coli. The scientist are wondering were this specially virulant variety comes from well i have remember a bit of information tha tmight help them find a source for the germ. I would rather whip up public opinion against Kim Jon Il than against the german government. I consider the german government likely to be more handy to the world  than otherwise in variouse ways, the german people are very ecologically minded people.  I am a, "look for the way to move government to be as usefull as possible", person, not an anti government person. Complete revolt is sometimes necessary but it is so destructive and the outcome is uncertain, so  i am not for going against govermnments, unless they are authoritarian, the new word in Spain for for totalitarian is authoritarian, in much the same way  as the war ministry in many countries havebecome the peace ministrym or the working class, the middle class. Maybe people want to forget that they are the ones that work. Even if a country has a totalitarian government i go for slow change if  possible. rose macaskie.

They've now ruled out the sprout farm from what the newsfeeds say.
