Right now is the best time to add your trees(canopy and subcanopy) that have went into dormancy.

Casie made a great point, see what is already growing in your climate and start there. 4 acres is a lot. I know a guy that feeds his whole family from 1 acre. There are 9 of them in the family. They go to the grocery store very little. Primarily for meats. Stick with it, it's a lot of fun and very rewarding ride.

This could be a good start. For $2.99 you can read David Goodmans book on kindle as a digital download, "How to grow you own food forest". He cuts through a lot of information and makes it extemely easy for anyone to start a food forest. You can also go to www.thesurvivalgardener.com , again lots of useful information.

Sprinkle dried and shredded catnip leaves around and on top of the mound. They will leave. It worked for me.Good luck.

You can actually cut the branch and replant the one you cut in another area. You can propagate from cuttings as long as the inner bark is still green. Good luck.

Read Compost Everything, the Good Guide to Composting by David the Good. All of your answers are in there. Go to www.thesurvivalgardener.com, you can digital download or get paperback. Definitely read this before getting a composted.

Fantastic book, gives hundreds of plant selections I never knew you could grow in Florida, some I never even knew existed. Great reference book for anyone interested in perennial gardening. Great website too, extremely informative. David has one of the most energetic approaches to teaching how to create your own food forest. You have to check him out at www.floridasurvivalgardening.com, this is not your normal gardening website. This one is well worth your time. David thank you and your family for the wealth of information and the entertainment.
