Dominica offers more freedom than I was aware exists. And I live in the land of the free. Taxes are pretty much non existent and You can (most do) harvest anywhere on the island (not private land). Everything is fresh and the water is so clean and tastes amazing. There is very little to pay for and what you do pay for costs very little. There are no permits to be had and the laws are mainly moral ones.
The people are very nice however you can still catch some contempt. The current residents on the island are descendant from slaves as the island was once a slave hub.

Aside from driving on the wrong side of the road and they drive like maniacs on them mountain roads I see no fault with Dominica. America is falling and I do not want to be here when it does. I am adding expat to my resume.

How do you feel about Dominica?

Domes. Concrete domes are the thing now. Or, like you said, a shack to rebuild. It is amazing cheap to live there. Everything is fresh. Relaxed island life. I miss it so much.
