Hi Hannah,
This is Jane Higginson. Mainly writing to greet you! My little hut in Dehesa on the land you have been to, had no electricity. The doors were open to the prevailing cooler breeze, which could pass through one door and out the other. If you could install windows in the garage orienting one toward the prevailing cool breeze and another opposite, and open them,  it might help a little. Other than that, it's hot anyway so I moisten a long-sleeved cotton shirt and wear it during the hottest hours. It's a personal swamp cooler. I also have a 500 gallon water tank that I soak in.
Hope you find something that helps!

Hi, not sure if my first try at replying went through. Thanks very much -- it's great to see a regenerative oriented real estate company! My land in East San Diego County CA is in escrow now. It's good to know that you exist in case I need a real estate agent in the future!

The tiny house is below the septic tank in elevation, so it would be better to install a regular flush toilet and shower/tub up on the building pad. The pad and septic system are permitted. I don't know what San Diego County does in cases if you want to build a bathroom separate from a house. FYI the tiny house was built without a permit because it's about 90 sq ft. Under 120 sq ft is OK without a permit. You could also consider putting another tiny or small house on the existing building pad and having a conventional bathroom inside it. If you wouldn't mind sending me your email address, I can send you some pictures  so you can see what I mean. I tried to attach some with my phone now but haven't tried it on permies before and didn't get it to work.
Thanks again,
Jane

Hi,
It has a rustic toilet inside a tent. The waste emties into the on-site septic system which is designed to recycle the treated wastewater for tree irrigation. I take a shower under a tree in the summer. I also take sponge bath. In the winter I usually rely on friends' showers but also take sponge bath. It would be not-too-distant to rig up a solar-heated shower, if you wanted to. If you would like to call or text me, my number is 619-219-9311. I'm on Pacific Time and go to bed around 9. My email is archelonia@gmail.com.
Thanks very much for your interest,
Jane
Hi,
My olive tree has lots of fruit this year, probably because it's massive roots invaded my septic tank--but that's another story. So I am looking for info on pressing the olives for oil--i have looked it up online and found long laborious processes involving meat tenderizer, cheese cloth, and immersion blender. Then I have seen small-batch oil presses online for sale. Has anyone tried using a small-batch, hand operated oil press machine? Can you please recommend a hand-operated model to buy (for less than $150)? I am off-the-grid so electric models won't serve.
Thanks!!!

Hi,
Not sure if I'm answering right. Thanks for writing! Wish I could knock the zero off the end but it cost me wayyyyy more than that to buy it in the first place. I Hope you find your dream place someday.

Hi,

I have 4 acres of land for sale in San Diego CA with a teeny-tiny house on it made of steel and papercrete and a separate building pad/parking site on which to put another small home. The land is sloped, nestled into  a hillside. It has fantastic views, a permaculture style dryland orchard of fruit and nut trees, lots of wildlife and native plants. The land has been a host to permie workshops in past years. Please see the listing and pictures here:

Hi, I appreciate so much what you are doing. After trying to sell my permie homestead/nature reserved with realtors, I realized the business is not geared to connecting buyers WITH the land.I had to do that part of the work myself, giving many tours, hosting events, attending events for similar minded folks, etc. So now I'm doing for sale by owner. If you were here in San Diego I would consider hiring you. Mainly the real estate business here is geared toward marketing a commodity of a flat piece of land where someone can build a 2,000 or greater sq. Ft. Convential stick frame house, no value given to existing food forest, wildlife diversity, native plants, water harvesting, etc.
My post is under permaculture real estate Homestead for sale So Cal.
Thanks,
