Hello,
So when I first started getting into gardening (in spring of 2020), i had planted some pumpkins. They got destroyed by the groundhogs that live in the area. I would wake up to leaves being eaten and the plants did not make it because of this destruction.
The year after, spring of 2021, I have squash, beets, kale, beans, tomatoes and other plants that are thriving. There is minimal groundhog damage. I used the permaculture principle of planting herbs like mint, lavendar, lemonbalm etc. alongside other susceptible vegetation. I also had a thicket of wildflowers surrounding my yard. I had also left some edible weeds (like Lamb's quarter) grow wild in a section. Could doing all this really have made such a significant difference? What could have contributed most to keeping these groundhogs form destroying my plants: planting herbs alongside, wildflower screens, wild edible weed like Lamb's quarter that the groundhogs enjoy (and hence leave other plants alone)?
Just curious and want to learn!
Thanks!

It looks like the area is healing, I see fur growing back. Fingers crossed he recovers fully, and doesn’t happens again. I looked more into it and pretty sure it’s “urine scald”. I had left extra hay in his kennel while I was traveling, which ended up lining up the floor and getting soaked in his pee.

Hello,

I started raising New Zealand Rabbits (for meat). My doe is on her 2nd litter. Only one kit survived from the 1st litter of 6 (the surviving one has been weaned and doing very well), and there are 2 remaining from the 2nd litter of 7.

I have noticed some of the dead kits have nose bleeds (2 out of 4 dead ones had this). Have other rabbit raisers experienced this problem? The kits are all inside the wooden nest box that is filled with fur and hay. I check up on them periodically, they are all fine before bed, and when I check in the morning, I find dead ones in the box

Please help, the kits are dying on me after a couple of days of being born!

not sure if these are seedlings or grafted, got them from a native plants nursery, the only info i have is that these are "straight species".

Hello,
So I had planted a couple of persimmon trees last fall (American persimmons that’s supposed to be native of North America). They were about 5-6 feet tall when planted. It’s the end of summer and they haven’t bloomed. Since the flowers are what distinguish male vs female, I don’t know what gender they are. My question is, is it normal for them to not have flowered? How old would they be if they are that size and when will they start producing fruits?

Hello, I found this tail injury in one of my meat rabbits (New Zealands) today. He seems fine, eating as normal. The injury is hidden and can’t normally seen (since the tail is tucked up) so I don’t know how long he has been like this. I did inadvertently have another male rabbit with him in his crate overnight (which was a mistake); so not sure if that’s what caused this.

Botanical name “Erigeron canadensis”
(According to an app I have that tells you what a plant is based on pics, which is accurate…most of the time)
I’ve actually eaten it myself, it has a complex peppery flavor which I like and put in salads to give them a little kick.

Hello,

Is horseweed safe to feed meat rabbits?

I’m trying to learn about feeding naturally growing “weed” to my meat rabbits. I know not all weeds are safe.

Hey guys, new to gardening here and want to follow nature's cycles into what my gardening. So I have surplus of kale growing that are flowering, and soon will grow fruits/pods. If i let these pods burst open, will the seeds germinate for the next life cycle and give more kale? I guess the question goes to other veggies with similar life cycle as well.
