Do you get errors like this when trying to access permies?

This thread is about how to fix it.

First, a little bit about what's going on (non-technical version):

Permies uses a "certificate" from letsencrypt to facilitate the "https:" part of the address - as in https://permies.com/forums.

See the blue "s" in "https"? That what this whole certificate is for. And it makes our stuff secured. If you think that's an overkill for just an "s", get this:- not only it needs a "certificate", your computer also needs another certificate (called "root certificate") to verify that certificate! On September 30, 2021 that root certificate on your computer got expired. So, what you are seeing with all these errors is your computer making a big fuss about no longer being able to verify the certificate for "https"!

So, how do you fix it?

Have you tried turning it off an on again? :)

If you keep getting errors like above, you will have to install a new "root certificate" thing into your browser. The way you do that depends on your browser.

Before you begin, try updating your browser and see if it fixes anything.

How to update Chrome
How to update Firefox
How to update safari
How to update Opera

If updating the browser doesn't fix it. Here's how to install your new shiny certificate:

Step
1

Download the certificate

Click here to download the new certificate into your computer. Create a new folder in your hard drive and move the downloaded file into that new folder.

Step
2

Install the certificate into your computer

Double-click the file to install it into your computer. Note that you might need to give it admin permissions.

Step
3

Install the certificate into your browser

If your are on Chrome:

Click the triple-dotted icon at the top-right corner, and go to "settings".

Type "certificate" into the BLUE search bar at the top.

Click "security" from the list.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, and click "Manage certificates"

Click "authorities", and then click "import". Select the downloaded file from the new folder which you have moved it into.

Keep clicking "next" until it is installed.

Once installed, restart the browser.

If your are on Firefox:

Go to settings and search "certificate".

Click "View Certificates" button.

Select "Authorities" and then click "Import". Select the downloaded file from the new folder which you have moved it into.

Keep clicking "next" until it is installed.

Once installed, restart the browser.

If your are on Safari:

Follow these instructions to install the file that you have downloaded earlier:
https://support.apple.com/en-sg/guide/keychain-access/kyca2431/mac

Once installed, restart the browser.
