Ground cover id - Vinca minor, Periwinkle

This is growing around my area under a variety of large trees in the Pacific NW. It competes with ivy and I like it a lot more than ivy. Any way to promote it's growth?

We have it out back along a wooded edge holding it's own with ivy and a bittersweet that have all run rampant back there for decades. The vinca doesn't climb and pretty much covers the shaded areas under the trees. It will creep out into sunnier places a little and seems to hold up to a bit of mowing as well.

I think as long as it's shaded and not exposed to a lot of sunlight it will thrive.

One bank of this creek branch is covered in ivy though and meets up with vinca on one edge and the bittersweet on the other...I've not measured to see if one is pushing the other back? We've only been here three years. Sometimes I have the urge to add a few more seemingly 'invasive' plants to the mix but then I remember that much of the shade back there is privit!

Vinca is also a useful medicinal herb and has those sweet blue flowers and glossy leaves...a lovely plant and a keeper.

And our neighbors goats like it.
