Orange rust on blackberries

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
I'm noticing Orange rust on a lot of wild blackberry canes this year, I have never noticed it around here before. Coincidentally they just started fracking in the neighborhood last year... anyway, they say there's nothing to do except pull out the canes and burn them. Has anybody experienced this before or knows of any permaculture ways to deal with this?

It seems the issue is not limited to your area.

Isaac, I've noticed that rust for many years. It only seems to affect one plant at a time, never becoming endemic in the patch so I just ignore it. And by the way I'm about as far away from fracking, industry and agricultural chemicals as it is probably possible these days while still being close to civilization.
