The mainland's aviation industry is expected to inject as much as US$300 million over the next four years to expand its supply of biofuels, says a senior executive at American aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

Billy Glover, vice-president of environment and aviation policy, said the industry would need a full-scale refinery operation - costing US$200 million to US$300 million - by 2015 in order to meet the global target of replacing 1 per cent of individual countries' annual jet fuel usage with biofuels.

He made the remark after Air China successfully completed its first test flight using a biofuel partially produced from jatropha seeds.

Toad-stooly amazing! Gardeners stunned by mega mushroom which weighs the same as a small baby

They are normally picked up in the supermarket in trays or bags you can easily fit in your fridge - but not this mushroom.

The giant fungus has sprung up at the Trentham Estate, Staffordshire, were stunned gardeners watched it grow and grow - to a mammouth 18 inches wide.

The Giant Puffball now weighs in at a hefty 5lb - the same as a small baby - and mysteriously appeared in the estate's Italian Garden last month.

Stroll by any Whole Foods seafood counter and you will see color-coded fish: Green for fully sustainable, yellow for partially sustainable, and red for fish threatened by overfishing or grown on polluting fish farms. Buy a "green" fish and you eat guilt free, confident that you are doing your part to save the ocean and its inhabitants.

MONTREAL -- A newly published blueprint for doubling the global food supply includes a key suggestion about how everyone can contribute to this increasingly pressing ambition: eat less meat.

An international team of researchers has developed solutions to respond to what it calls one the greatest challenges of the 21st century -- boosting food production while slashing the environmental impact of agriculture.

The research, which will be featured on the cover page of the Oct. 20 edition of the journal Nature, comes as international concern grows over how the planet will feed the rapidly expanding human population.
