I have not tried, but I'm musing here so take it with a grain of salt.

I wonder if greek yogurt or sour cream would be a close substitute? It may require some 'dressing up' with spices and accoutrements but I could see those working.

I don’t really use recipes much.  More of a guideline to what people put in. I use instead of mayo since I don’t use seed oils or store bought food, I make sauces with kefir (or the cream on top of the kefir). Or the cream on top of the milk, mix with sour cream, Herbamare, curry & chives. Dusted with paprika.

Ok now I realize videos don’t work. So I took some screenshots of my video to give you an idea.

Here’s a video of Heidi last fall, grateful to get a break from all those flies!

I remembered that I took some photos of the cattle after I applied the DE

It’s been awhile since I posted. I’ve used DE extensively on our homestead for the last 20 years. I buy it in 50kilo bags from my local Bio-Ag dealer. It is great stuff!  I live with someone who has COPD so I make sure to use it when I’m alone. I drill holes in plastic bottles to make my own salt shakers. To apply the dust to the backs of our cows and goats, donkeys and the chickens get it too. When the donkey and goat pens are cleaned I let everything air dry first on a good hot day. Then liberally dust the floors with it before the saw dust or bedding materials get put down.

It’s in the chicken coop as a dust bath material for them to roll in. Mixture of a bucket of sand, coffee can of wood ash, about 2 cups of DE.

Also I personally take it internally for gut health. Or especially when constipated. Works like a charm on my 86year old mom. Who is very grateful. Just mix a tsp in a cup of warm water drink it before bed.

Meant to say 40ft up the birch
I read in a post long ago that grapes and mulberries have a symbiotic relationship.  So I planted my grapes under my mulberry and am training them to go up to the lower branches. Then they (the vines) can help themselves to whatever sunlight they can get. Since the grapes have at least a month head start on the mulberry with leafing out!  Just an idea. Since most of my wooden structures, trellises etc have disintegrated.  Trees hopefully keep going long after I’ve gone!  My kiwis are 40 up the birch tree. Not easy to harvest. They gave up on their arbour and just reached out to the next best thing!

Thanks for the tip!  I have a cast iron griddle pan sitting op top of the toaster oven. So if I wanted to keep food warm I’d put it on top of that.
No I don’t buy the old ones. The ones I buy are used with a timer. A dial. So no danger of it staying on unless the timer fails. There is always someone home here!
Glad your story had a good ending!
