Thanks for this Thread!

I am in N. CA. bottom of the foothills S/E of Sacramento. I was asked by the PG&E contract tree crew if they could park on our land for "a few weeks" to ssave from lots of driving to the other area where they usually park. I said sure if you can bring me lots of chips! HaHaHa!!!

So I have over 200 cubic yards of chips...

All sorts of wood, from Grey Pine to Oak, to Black Walnut to well whatever was growing near the power lines...

I am hoping to find a broad use inoculate that I could spray on the piles to really get them going.

We dry out pretty soon also, but I could figure out a sprinkler system.

Any ideas?

Cool, I work in downtown Sacramento, but live about an hour S/E at the bottom of the foothills. We have a chunk of unbelievable land (with WATER!) that we are working on building/planting out there...

I am looking for a great price on healthy Giant Sequoia seedlings.
Looking for between 50 and 100.
The wonderful Nursery I bought from last year burned down in one of CA's fires last season...

Any thoughts?

Let's talk about Self Directed IRAs.
I would love to find the just right person or people to lend some money to to a)help them get a rung up owning their own land, and b) take a nice profit on my investment doing something "better" than dropping it in a mutual fund, that bets it on who knows what, on a moment to moment schedule.

How would I find those just right people?

Right now we rent a few of our acres to a wonderful farming couple who met in collage both studying agriculture and they have been working our land for five years now. They have knocked it out of the park! At our local farmers market this season, as you entered and were greeted by the market management, they had to explain that the line was for Upcountry Farms, and that if you want to go to other booths you can just go around... That is how well they have dominated that market. This last spring they told us that they were looking to buy their own land, and I asked what market they are looking in they impressed me with the number they said... Sadly what they are looking for is very far beyond what I could help them with or I would jump to offer them a loan. We are in N. CA and the land around here is $$$$$!

How do I find these same wonderful farmers in a place where the land is much more affordable so I can help them buy, while helping to grow my retirement?

I am outside Sacramento, and I have taken a bunch of local elderberry. cuttings this year. If you are interested, I could send you some to try growing.

I am trying to get a bunch started in raised, air pruning beds. The idea is to let the tap root go down till it hits air causing the roots to grow out rather than down or around as they would in most pots. Then I will transplant to the ground next year...
