MUD exists to create a replicable model of sustainable living through education, demonstration, and celebration in the Missoula community.

    See us online at: www.mudproject.org.

Self-sufficiency, when based on shared community knowledge and resources, can be achieved in any community.  Self-sufficiency and strong community relationships are also critical to the success of any community.  The niche MUD has filled for 30 years is that of connecting people with resources and skills necessary to improve their quality of life, decrease their ecological and economic impacts, and strengthen the Missoula community.

MUD is committed to providing hands-on, quality learning experiences to community members from all walks of life. Our Workshops, Tool Library, Truck Share and Demonstration Site programs provide grassroots examples of how working together can help us all become more self-sufficient.

MUD is located in the Northside neighborhood, where it was founded nearly thirty years ago. Today it is the only place in Missoula where adults can gain hands-on experience with gardening, fixing a lawn mower or their vehicle, and a wide variety of other do-it-yourself projects and skills. Between the Tool Library and Workshop series, MUD volunteer instructors share expert knowledge with hundreds of Missoulians every year.

Through MUD’s programs, Missoulians have been learning how to reduce their ecological impact, increase their environmental awareness, and live within their budget by making simple lifestyle changes.  Backyard sustainability, learned from neighbors and community members, has had a powerful ripple effect in Missoula for over 30 years.
