I attended this event last night. I wasn't going to go because I am generally far too outspoken. Fortunately, there was a woman there that kept me well reigned in!
One of the things I attempted to express is something that takes a little more time and understanding.
There was talk of having four units there to rent. If I were to assume that there would be four two bedroom units, then that would be a total of eight bedrooms. Something that I think would be a bit of a challenge, but, would be something worthwhile to demonstrate, would be eight bedrooms in one unit.
Same number of people, and you could demonstrate that the overall power consumption would be much less. Possibly by a factor of four. One good kitchen instead of four small kitchens. One nice living room instead of four small living rooms. The bedrooms could even be a little bigger. Rather than a total of four bathrooms, there could be three.
So, overall, the physical footprint is smaller. Everybody has a larger room. Everybody has a larger, nicer kitchen and common space.
Granted, IC living is not for everybody. And it has it's challenges. All I'm saying is that as long as we are wishing, I would like to wish for MUD to demonstrate a form of living that is MUCH lighter on the planet.
