While visiting my parents on Saturday, my mom came up from the basement said that there’s a puddle of water by the furnace so I went down to check it out. And elbow on the return line for their hot water baseboard heat was leaking. Fortunately, a few months before we had pulled a similar furnace out of my brother’s cabin and stored in the barn, so I was able to pull some parts off of it to fix the proble. After I had it fixed, had the water pumped back in, and the lines bled I turned on the valve to the main supply line and it snapped off. There was a shark bite on that line close by so I was able to pull enough slack to get it hooked up without the valve since I didn’t have a part. (Replacing that valve two days later I put under another BB.)
After running the pumps, water stars spraying out of a half inch copper pipe so I scoured the barn and outdoor sheds looking for anything I can use to fix it. Fortunately, I found a half inch shark bite and installed that temporarily. It was 1 AM Sunday morning when I got the heat back on.
Always have tools and parts on hand, cause you never know when you’re gonna be fixing things in the middle of the night when nothing is opened to buy parts.
