After replacing several jet well pumps through the years, my friend once again was having problems with his latest pump and he asked me to get rid of the jet pump and install a submersible well pump. I agreed if he would find the well. Here is that project.
After the pipe was pulled, I removed the valve at the bottom and was able to reuse 70 feet of the old pipe to install the new submersible pump. I added to the well casing because it was originally caped over 4 feet below grade. Then it started to rain. I lowered the submersible pump into the well with some help. Fortunately I was able to reuse the pipes to the house. One for water and the other for electric. So no trenching was involved. I then removed the old jet pump and plumbed the submersible to the old pressure tank. I needed some electrical supplies but it was late and I was rain soaked so I temporarily hooked up the electric. It worked and my friend had water for the night.
The next day, I unhooked the pump, then finish the conduit from the well to the house, Re- ran the pump wire to the pressure switch, installed a new twelve gauge wire from the pressure switch to the breaker panel and added a double twenty amp breaker. (the conduit, 12 gauge wire, and double 20 amp breaker were salvaged items saved from the trash).
It was a fun project and more involved than a simple replacement job.
To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:

- potable water
- pressure controlled with a pressure tank
- you can elect to do the electrical portion, plumbing portion or the full job
Electrical points earned vary from 4-8 points
- 4 points if you are replacing a pump
- 6 points if you are installing a full system (pump, pressure tank, breaker, wiring, trenching, etc)
- 8 points for something excessively wonderful or complicated (this is very unlikely to be awarded)
- no duplicate points for other sand or straw electricity badges like running the wire, adding the breaker, etc
Plumbing points earned vary from 4-8 points
- 2 points for replacing a pump
- 8 points for installing a pump where one didn't exist before
- you can get certified for the "Replace a pressure tank" BB if you install a new one or replace the existing pressure tank
To show you've completed this Badge Bit, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):

- empty well casing
- old pump (if applicable)
- new pump wired and plumbed
- wires coming out of cap after installation
- planned pressure tank location (if applicable)
- pressure tank wired (if applicable)
