As I noted, you do not need to locate yourself on the map by your exact address. Some suggestions might be to pin your location to your favorite cafe, coffee shop, your local library, or favorite local park.
Anyone with a gmail account can create their own custom map. Just go to maps, click on my places, then create map. You zoom around just like any other google map search, then add a pin anywhere you want, then add description, etc.
You can also draw lines as paths, which I have done for my favorite park walk or bus routes close to me.
I am considered the owner of the mentioned map, and I can give others permission to edit the map, so anyone can not just add something.
I made the map semi-private, in that only people that receive the link can see it and supposedly it will not be listed under any search(but I have not confirmed that).
It would be nice to have a mapping app like this, to add to a meetup group like the Seattle Permaculture Guild Meetup group(850+ members) so that you could get the control over editing, restricting it to members only.

I started something similar to what you are looking for, maybe 3 years ago for the Seattle Permaculture Guild. I used the free feature of making your own custom Google map.
You can see it here:
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=206802057163156437696.00045ee836d93cea7db77&msa=0

After announcing it quite a few times to the group(500+ members at the time), no more than a handful of people wanted their location known.
Note: you do not have to show the precise address, just, for example your fav spot nearby. You can basically add a web page as a popup, so very flexible as to what bio info you can include.
My map could be axpanded to cover anywhere in the world, it is just a matter of zooming in and out.
Or I could help anyone else create a new one.

Your registration fee of $200 appears to be a misprint. Seems like it should be $2000, if it is going to go up to $2175 sept 19th, but then again it does not matter, since it is past that date already.

The new Seattle Permaculture Meetup is what has happened over the past few weeks.
You can find info here:
http://www.meetup.com/Seattle-Permaculture-Meetup-Group/?gj=wg2_ej1b

And I just put up a link in the SPG News and Events, here:
http://seattlepermacultureguild.org/wiki/wiki.php?n=Main.CurrentNewsletter

You should go to the cob oven pizza party at the UW student farm this coming Friday 3-6pm, with more info here:
http://seattlepermacultureguild.org/wiki/wiki.php?n=Main.CurrentNewsletter#uwfarm1
There should be a lot of Seattle Permaculture people in attendance.

You drive me crazy Paul!
You could have easily added one sentence to say what the heck PSP means. The only PSP I know of is Paint Shop Pro!

I just created a custom map using "My Maps" at Google.
It is somewhat private in that you have to recieve the following link to view it.
I am hoping that this will make it easier for people to organize more in their neighborhood, by seeing a map overview of people interested in being connected.

I would appreciate comments and additions to the map.

If you have flush toilets, you can use that nasty water for flushing, conserving your good water for the garden.

Hi Kelda,

If you could find some cheap used ladders you could level them with some strategically placed urbanite and make them permanent. Then interconnect them with some bamboo, then maybe put some other type of vining fruit up them.

I have let my grapes go up into my bamboo grove and they love it.

Paul,
I'm not sure what all is in the tar file. The only thing I'm sure of is the content is there.

Tar files are the linux version of windows zip files. The email I got from riseup help recommended get a freeware untar  program offf the web.

Hi Kelda,

That's great you set those up so quickly!
What is the link to the riseup list , so I can add my name?

I sent Paul a link to where riseup put a zipped copy of the SPG website and I downloaded it to my computer, too, as a backup.
I'm still investigating if we need to get any other program components to run the wiki on Pauls server. I will also get in touch with Amy's friend, Jon, who helped us set up pmwiki the last time. And see if he is aware if any possible newer versions that can provide us with a calendar function.
Hope you are enjoying this great weather!
