I have no idea where to post this, please shuffle it to the best place, thank you mods!
A group of us involved in Transition Towns started a 'cafe' where we, deep breath...subvert the current capitalist paradigm...and people can swap produce, help out, give a cash donation appropriate to their circumstances or whatever.
In NZ this cocept is called koha or utu, which basically means reciprocity, not charity or gifting. I think an expectation of getting something back is important, but it doesn't need to be as simplistic as "I hand you a biscuit and you hand me $". Time banking has a similar idea.
This kind of thing can only work when there's minimal cash outlays! We're all volunteers, it's only one day a week, the space at the local Community Centre is already paid for by Transition Towns and the local organic shop donates their produce when it's getting on a bit.
Just letting people know what's happening and maybe you'd like to get something going where you are.
