Alpaca Pasturage

Alpacas are allergic or just plain offended by half the standard plants used in northern American permaculture. This makes setting up sustainable pasturage for them a bit difficult. We've had to remove all the black walnut from the vicinity, and can't use the usual hedging plants.

Question: Does anyone know if alpacas are sensitive to eastern gamagrass? After a good deal of research, I'd like to put in gamagrass as a dual-purpose food crop, the seeds for the humans on the property (flour and oil) and the grass itself for hay / forage for the goats and alpacas. I have a low-lying area near a pond where I can put the gamagrass if I need to keep it well away from the alpacas, but I need to know if they can even eat the stuff safely. The VAOBA site and other alpaca care web sites haven't been useful here, and neither have my alpaca care manuals.

i was totally into this idea. but your right i think if you want alpacas to work out your gonna have to aggressively breed them. I also have so many questions about alpacas in native pastures
