ORGANIC AGRICULTURE AND PERMACULTURE COURSE A ONE-MONTH INTENSIVE PROGRAM [/size]

Introductory theoretical and hands on course held at Rio Muchacho Organic Farm, close to Canoa on the coast of Ecuador

Next course: November 5 thru 30

Course Content :

• Orientation
• Spanish Class - farming in Spanish
• Principles of Organic Farming - soil/plant relationship, law of return, rotation, diversity, crop association
• Composting-5 methods
• Other Organic Fertilizers - liquid fertilizers, green manures, using legumes, composting, vinegars
• Worm Culture - feeding, harvesting etc
• Double-dig Gardening - French intensive method
• Pest and Disease Management - identification, traps and repellents, natural insecticides
• Organic Standards and Certification - inspection
• Permaculture - principles and design
• Seeds and Seed Collecting
• Biodynamic Farming - history, principles, preparations
• Plant propagation, weeds, wild food, mulch gardening, grey water, alternative energy, soils, composting toilets, and more!
• Visit to projects in Bahía Ecocity


Other cultural activities: chocolate, coffee and cheese making, carving gourds for cups and spoons, making rings and jewelry out of palm seeds and vegetable ivory, fishing for river shrimp, applying face masks using local clay followed by fresh aloe vera, horse riding, hiking, etc.

Cost: $1200 (Includes the above and room and board)
