mushroom id help

hihi.

I found 3 of these mushrooms residing between the fence and a pine tree in our yard. They appear flat, with sort of a concave-ish-ness to them in the center. I tried to gently bend it over to show the whole stem and top part. They're rather low to the ground, and I didn't want to pull any out.

That would be in the Russula genus. Here's a link to the Mushroom Expert's key on further identifying which Russula it is.

I also have a pretty beautiful violet mushroom that needs IDing! This was found in a high altitude forest just outside Glacier National Park in Northern Montana. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Interesting the way the stem is twinned. Were there many in the area?

Nope this was the only one actually and no one else in our group found any others. You might be on to something with that, although yeah, I don't know about the "twinness" that's really unique. Hmm.

That "twinning" is not all that unusual, mushrooms growing next to each other don't have any sense of individuality, so they can easily fuse together. I just thought it might have been part of a larger clump.

Very cool mushroom there Madison - first time I've seen a purple one before!
