You mumble something like, 'effin' bare dirt monocultures,' every time you drive through farmland.

You see a messy yard filled with leaf litter, and take the next three seconds to determine if it's great planning or neglect.

...you bemoan the lack of a good enough rationalization for a pickup truck about 30% of the time you read the "free" section of craigslist (or Uncle Henry's).

...you catalogue your friend's gardens, and casually ask if you can "dig up some of your comfrey", or maybe "help deal with all those windfall apples".

...you romanticize the days when you ate in a barn, bathed in a sauna, and shat in a bucket.

...you cry over every unused rooftop, southern exposure, empty lot, and highway median.

You drive by a place with a sign selling eggs, noticing what may be hugelkultures in their garden. You take a better look the next time but are frustrated by the additional snow fall. Contemplate buying eggs as an excuse to stop by, even though you are allergic to chicken eggs.

I couldn't agree more. And yes, they think that I am crazy.

You mumble something like, 'effin' bare dirt monocultures,' every time you drive through farmland.

I can't even explain the feeling I got when traveling through Ohio last spring and just seeing huge open fields with the dirt blowing away in the wind of that day.

I also mumbled to my self "don't you know mother nature will win...succession" when I was watching the highway department cutting back the trees and brush along the local highways. Actually slaughtering the trees and vegitation. I actually have an almost painful response internally when I see them doing it and it makes it hard to watch it happen. (I am not becoming a tree-hugger, am I?!?)

Yeah, I flinched everytime I looked at my neighbors tilled field & the soil was blowing away.

My project thread
Agriculture collects solar energy two-dimensionally; but silviculture collects it three dimensionally.
