Dear Stewards of the Earth,

Kaw Permaculture is pleased to announce its 9th Permaculture Design Course, July 9 through 18, 2014. This PDC will be hosted by SubTerra Castle Permaculture Center, Eskridge, KS and will consist of 10 days of a mix of classroom presentations, discussion and hands-on field experience. SubTerra (subterracastle.com) is an unique venue, being a poignant example of regenerative lifestyles, transforming weapons of mass destruction into implements of peace. The homestead has been transformed from a 1950s nuclear missile site to multifaceted permaculture and holistic living project.

This intensive course promises to be a personally transformative and community building experience. The PDC will bring together the combined talents of three permaculture teachers, who have many years of experience working with the ecology of the central plains bio-region. Among the topics central to permaculture design, participants will learn how to apply principles of ecological design to both the urban and broad-acre settings. The course will include classroom instruction, hands-on exercises, group discussion and teamwork, and field trips to six local urban garden and farm sites. Students who complete this course will be awarded a Permaculture Design Certificate from the Kansas Permaculture Institute, a project of the Sustainability Action Network.

The keystone of the permaculture movement is education in the ethics and principles of ecological design. The PDC course is the foundation for a regenerative design of our human environments, agriculture and communities. To this end, Bill Mollison, co-founder with David Holmgren of the Permaculture Movement, established the content and curriculum of a 72-hour Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course. Since the mid 1980s, these courses have been taught in thousands of communities worldwide.
