Today we processed our chickens, in years bast we used a 55 gallon barrel cut in half and stacked back on top of itself with holes cut to build a fire underneath. This worked good but took a lot of wood and was hot having the heat coming from under the barrel. Problem was the old one rusted out so I had to build another one, but then I had the bright idea of using my rocket stove to power it. It worked perfect!!! You want your water about 175 deg and It kept it there perfectly with just a little bit of wood. I also tried something I had never tried before. I had some oil that went bad, some coconut and olive oil. so I stuck it in a tin can over the stove with a pin hole in the bottom. It dripped right down in the rocket stove and helped keep the fire going even longer. I only had to add some little chunks of wood and some oil every 30-60 minutes. I will definitely be doing this again. Oh and best of all I didn't weld anything I simply used the bolt on ring that came with the barrel to hold it on. And will use the cut off piece of the barrel for a raised bed! I hope to post a video to youtube soon.

-- So i Know all about using cones as legitimate and ethical way to do the bloodletting part of processing your poultry, But I always wondered where I would find
material to make long lasting Cones that were not horribly un-handy for the task at hand !

Take a look at the operation in the background, Its hard to argue with the reuse- especially when the Original use is not interfered with !

For the Crafts ! Big AL

For those with bad eyesight/tiny screen sizes - They are using old traffic cones.

@Allan: "So i Know all about using cones as legitimate and ethical way to do the bloodletting part of processing your poultry...."

Hmmmm....I'm clueless on this one. Mostly it's downing the roo's with a .22 caliber and then the hatchet to the neck. Bleed out fine after that. How do the cones help?
