Hello. I just joined this forum and am researching the best ration of hens to roosters for a free range chicken farm. Each rooster gets to service his own set of ladies, but what is the recommendation for ratios of roosters per hens? This will be a larger farmer. I have read a 1:10 up to 1:25 ratios, so the differences are staggering. The rooster and his set of ladies will have their own sections, so they will be separated, eliminating the possible destructive fighting. I would appreciate all feedback for rooster to hen ratios that are healthy and "happy" for all parties involved if you have experience with large chicken farms. I am trying to create a humane environment too Thanks for reading my post!

It partially depends on your ultimate goal(s).

Regardless of the goal, a rooster should have a dozen hens in his harem. If there are fewer hens, he will soon have them all running for cover every time they see him.

With a 25:1 ratio, you will probably end up with a lot of unfertilized eggs.
If your goal is producing lots of birds, I would say a 15:1 ratio should work fine.
