My name is BJ. I posted here (
https://permies.com/t/51865/single-dallas-tx) years ago when I first started my off grid life - It's been 12 years now!
I am still looking to meet a woman who is like-minded in living simply, isn't caught up in "pop-culture" and who desires to live a simple, quiet life and work the land with me.
Most of my "free time" is building things, hiking or camping in cool places around the country, and enjoying entertaining a few friends wherever.
Ideally, I'd like to meet a woman who is "old-school American" (conservative, not interested in "liberalism" or "progressivism", who is already working on herself daily, to be more like Jesus). I am a Christian, who wants to be more like Jesus and less like the "world" around me. I am a seminary graduate, and love to study the scriptures at a scholarly level (in Greek and Hebrew) and help others understand it clearly. I rarely "go to church" anymore - it's challenging to listen to "pastors" who have not studied the languages, teach things the bible doesn't say at all. I don't let that stop me from my own pursuit of Jesus. It's a daily event that I have deep conversation with others about the scriptures - usually disenfranchised former "church goers" who want to know God but have lost all trust in the church, pastors, etc. I don't blame them at all. I understand. I consider it "missionary work". Reaching the people immediately around me day-to-day.
I built my solar powered, rain watered, off grid homestead, alone, from the ground up. I've never had any "meters" on my property or a mortgage. I am interested in selling my current place, in the next year or so, and buying more land elsewhere (N. Tex, Oklahoma, or southern Colorado) and building the last home I will ever live in (hopefully). It would be nice to start that journey with someone - I made the mistake of "not finishing" my place now while I was dating a couple of different times, because I wanted her to have a place of her own, rather than just moving into my world - that was a mistake. lol
Professionally I remodel homes and do "handyman" work. I am a problem solver and enjoy fixing things for people. I mostly work for people I know, which is great. I have been self-employed since I was 21. I will never be a "corporate worker" or anything that goes along with that lifestyle - it is absolutely a lifestyle.
I value things that last - like wisdom - and things you can't buy - like experiences. This is why I have been to 5 continents and 31 countries, but lately I have been mostly exploring the USA and all its amazing wonders. A road trip that is loosely planned is my favorite thing to do. Be there and let life happen. I'm not a "scheduler" or try to "control the world around me". I just live my own life and let the world do whatever it wants to. Most of my friends do not share my same ideas - which is why I love them. I like people who are different from me, but in a spouse it's essential to share the fundamentals. Like being a Christian, but NOT a charismatic or "end times" junkie (both of those are historic things, not present day - happy to discuss). I value eating well (healthy) from my own produce (as much as possible) but I also enjoy a good glass of wine or craft beer, on occasion, and ice cream more often ! But I am fit, not on any meds, and active every day - and hope to find someone who shares that - Not fat, not on "subscription meds" (ssri, birth control, hormones, anti-depressants, etc). I have zero interest in that kind of person. We live incompatible lifestyles. I'm not opposed to medical intervention to correct a problem, but it's a last resort and a temporary situation until you can regain self-control, in my view. I haven't been sick / ill since I built my home. I got bit by a copperhead and got antivenin - that's it. Maybe a headache that I took some excedrine for. I set my own broken bones, and glue myself shut as needed. Because I am a man. lol I know when I need help, and that is rare, but I have no problem asking for it. I just prefer to DIY out of convenience and speed.
My ideal woman is an "old school american woman" - Christian, homestead mindset, wants to spend the rest of her life with a forever friend they are attracted to, and build a life together. I dont care if she has kids or not, wants kids or not, etc. I'm pretty open to deciding on non-essentials together. I'm not a dictator and don't want a doormat - I like women who are smart, have things they are good at and interested in on their own, and who already are living their own life now. No one wants a "project" as a partner. I do understand we are all a work in progress to some degree, and that's different for everyone. I have always been very smart - so I work best with someone who is an "expert" in their own domains of life or who can converse competently across subjects - curious - that might be the best descriptor. Wants to know what they know that they don't know.
Presently I live on a 1 acre homestead with a 1100 sf. home. My plan is to sell it and buy 20+ acres elsewhere and start over. I own my life - all of it - and have plenty of resources to start the new venture - Suvs, motorcycle, RV, tools, materials, etc. I have learned so much over the last decade that I am looking forward to utilizing that for the next phase of life. Hoping to catch someone's attention who also finds these things above both interesting and desirable.
If you message me or reply, please post a picture too. We have to look at one another so that's pretty important :) I'd like to chat on the phone if we aren't close enough to meet up, sooner than later. I've made a lot of friends from dates that werent compatible partners, and enjoy meeting new people - but I am pretty focused here, given the niche audience. Thanks for your time!
