Emilia hazelip garden beds

In this video they show her garden beds before anything has been planted. The beds are mulched and they have what appears to be bamboo criss crossed over each bed. Does anybody know what the bamboo is for? To hold the mulch in place?

Yup.
Well... that and to conjure up the gnome garden spirits that control the synergy in any garden. I think that part is in the advanced manual. It must be bamboo. Gnomes are scared of pole-cats and anything resembling traditional poles.

The rods accross the beds are to keep the mulch/straw in place in case of wind, rain and water run off. But actually the vegetables keep the mulch quite in place...
