could any of the exterior wall coverings work as a top coat? like dryvit or sto? maybe even durabond then painted?

I may gotten a bit lost in some of the suggested materials...these all sound like "box store" products?

Modern, non-breathable materials do not work on cobb...

A natural mineral base paint or alis...yes...

A covering in lime render...yes...
