Toby Hemenway is the author of
Gaia’s Garden: A Guide to Home Scale Permaculture, which for the last eight years has been the best-selling permaculture book in the world.
Larry Santoyo, Lead Instructor at The Permaculture Academy, is an ecological designer, green business consultant and senior planner at Earthflow Designs. Santoyo was mentored by permaculture’s founding father, Bill Mollison, going on to teach classes with Mollison and at colleges and universities nationwide.
This course is ideal for anyone who would like to explore the concepts of permaculture in-depth and in a community setting, people who'd like to practice these principles in their lives and communities or anyone who might like to go on to obtain a two-year diploma or other advanced trainings in permaculture. Graduates of this course will receive a certificate on behalf of the Permaculture Institute USA. The certificate signifies the successful completion of a permaculture design course and confers upon the holder the right to use the word “Permaculture” in a business or professional setting.
The Permaculture Design Course is adapted to a wide variety of learning styles and is presented through lecture, images, video, group discussion, exercises, and design projects. Students develop a sense of community with classmates while cultivating concrete skills that can be applied outside of the classroom.
This engaging 72-hour PDC is offered over six weekends May-October. Classes are held once a month on Saturdays (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Sundays (9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.). Dates are as follows: May 16 & 17, June 20 & 21, July 18 & 19 , Aug. 15 & 16, Sept. 19 & 20, Oct. 17 & 18.
All classes will be held at the Nobie Chan Education Center at South Seattle Community College in West Seattle. The address is 6000 16th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98106.
