A Class/Tour on Backyard Chickens in South Issaquah

Have chicks or thinking about them for next year? As the chicks grow, the list of questions grows as well! Come visit some backyard chickens in a country setting and talk about a holistic approach to keeping birds healthy and productive. Topics discussed will be:
• Overall design for chore efficiency
• Feed and foraging
• Fencing and shelter
• Egg production
• Holistic approach to keeping birds healthy

• Making chickens part of the organic garden cycle

This small acreage property has goals of being multi-use and aesthetic. Animals: 20 chickens of various breeds, a large pony, a cat. Food: lots of edibles,
compost and worm bins. Kids: swing, lawn, and woods play areas. Wildlife: natives and beneficial friendly plants, but keeping deer at bay. Ornamental: designed to be attractive without intense labor.

Instructor Bio: Samantha Zistatsis has nurtured plants and edibles organically in the Issaquah area her entire life with animals and among woods and wetlands. After training and working as an engineer, she applied design and process skills to the garden. She served as President and Vice President of the Issaquah Garden Club and became certified as a Landscape Design Consultant. Her passion is helping people make their gardens more beautiful, maintainable and productive. A side interest in nutrition has added to that the goal of nourishing the soil so it can produce vegetation and animals with maximum health.
