Seed Exchange

Unfortunately, in order to save your seeds, you need consider the process when planning and planting your garden, which is something I didn't do.

Is anyone else in Missoula planning on saving heirloom seeds? Would there be enough people with an abundance of seeds to consider having a seed exchange--we could do something like a small potluck and if people are interested but don't have seeds to share they could bring food instead. What do people think?

I'd be interested. This was my first year saving seeds. I didn't get the technique down for some of the plants, but still managed to save pure seeds from quite a few.

I am just starting to save seeds myself. I've heard of quite a few people who are doing it as well. 1,000 New Gardens has held a seed luck the last couple of years (late winter) for people to come together, share ideas, and trade seeds with one another. When permaculturist Michael Pularski came through town last spring, he was carrying around his seed bins selling, trading, and sharing with others. I know they are using heirloom seed varieties at the UM FLAT for seed saving and future planting.
