Adding Steer Manure

I have a 20 square foot garden bed, and I added about 1 Cubic foot of Steer Manure/Compost blend that I bought from Walmart for $1.30 I made sure to hoe it down in the soil about a foot, and I dumped some mulch over the top to keep the smell down. The soil is basic, I'm guessing, since I have high clay content and live in a desert. So, I'm guessing this didn't throw the PH balance off too much. Does this sound about right, or did I make a major mistake by doing this. I read somewhere its best to add one inch of manure to the garden bed and hoe it in, and this would have been around that.
