"Ready, Set...GROW! Rev Up Your Growing Space Now"
Live Webinar with Q&A this Saturday, February 27th

Concrete actions you can take today to amp up your harvest this year. If you've been tuning into the Grow Your Own Vegetables 4-part video training (see threads), I've been talking about finding the space, time and money to harvest armloads of homegrown vegetables. If you know you're growing your own this year, what can you do NOW to prepare for your best harvest yet.

Here's what to expect:
* How observation is an action that can prevent mistakes
* Plan some key dates on your calendar to better prepare you for the season
* Deciding your trellis strategy now so you can start scavenging free materials
+ more

Please come prepared to ask me about your biggest challenge getting started each growing season.
I'll be answering questions for at least an hour.

Grow Your Own Vegetables with Stacey Murphy
Free Online Video Training Series : Feb 16-27

This 4-part video training walks you through the big questions: Do you have the right space to grow food? Can you actually shrink your grocery bill with a vegetable garden? What tasks should you focus on so you only spend 2 hours (or less) per week while growing lots of food.

Video #4 was just released...check it out.

This final video breaks down the commonly held belief that growing food takes a lot of time. Yes, it takes time for a collard greens to grow, but there’s not a lot that you actually have to do if you are creating an eco-system where vegetables thrive.

Now’s your chance to binge watch all 4 videos. They will only be available through Sunday, February 28th at 11:59pm Eastern, so you’ll want to get started now.

If you have dreams of sun-kissed, organic vegetables on your plate, lots of them, and growing them inexpensively…

Sign up now, for no charge.

Peace & carrots,
Stacey Murphy

p.s. while growing zones are different around the world, there is something for every vegetable grower in this video series. Check out the comments of beginning growers, vegetable gardeners, homesteaders, and permaculturists all over the world!

Thanks for adding your perspective. I agree that the seedlings you describe are not "cheap" in any way with all those environmental impacts. I very much recommend nurseries that source locally from organic farmers or straight from the farmers at the markets (including heirlooms). I realize now that perhaps not everyone has the same experience having those sources available. I could have stated more explicitly NOT to get big box seedlings, but the thought didn't even cross my mind that people would do that! Perspective is everything, so thanks so much for broadening mine to include others' experience! - stacey

The third video is (not-so) secretly my favorite. Lots of viewers have a revelation when they realize how much growing their own seedlings is costing them. We assume growing from seed is ALWAYS cheaper…is it?

And don't forget to download the pdf “Set-Up Costs Budget Template." I list all the resources you need to get started, how much you may need to invest, and ways to think about getting those resources for free. Everyone’s favorite word, right?

Video 2 was just released...check it out.

The second video in the series is all about finding out if your space has what it takes to grow an abundant harvest. Where's the RIGHT place to grow vegetables? What's the single most important factor that determines whether your vegetables will thrive where you plant them. There's a quick mini-exercise to test your site, and sometimes people discover growing space they didn't even know they had by doing this exercise...space that was right under their nose all along.

And don't forget to download the pdf "Guide to Growing Zones." Not only do you learn why your growing zone is important, but you will see 5 ways to tweak your microclimate into more favorable conditions.

If you have dreams of a vegetable garden, or you’ve been growing for a couple years and want to amp up your harvest, or anything in between, I highly recommend you tune in to continue to build your dream of nourishing the planet while you enjoy fresh-picked, sun-kissed vegetables that you grew yourself.

The first video in the series is all about embracing the mindset of making lots of mistakes (or learning from others' mistakes), because each mistake holds an important lesson to learn. I'll share the 10 most common mistakes I see beginning growers make and how to learn from them.

    About Stacey Murphy
I'm a no-nonsense, down & dirty farmer who likes to create systems that are easy to implement and take precious little time to sustain. I enjoy training small plot growers how to focus resources on growing a bountiful harvest with the smallest effort. I'm a backyard urban farmer who has been running a six person CSA out of a 600 square foot backyard since 2009. This backyard farm yields between 25-80 pounds of produce weekly throughout the growing season. I also started a 1-acre youth farm in Central Brooklyn. I teach with dozens of NYC organizations and schools including New York Botanical Garden, NYC Farm School, Green Guerillas, and Just Food. I founded BK Farmyards in 2009 with the mission that everyone should have access to fresh, affordable and culturally appropriate food.

Interested in seeing teens across the nation learn where food comes from and how to make smart choices for the health of their bodies, community, culture and environment? Please contribute to our Indiegogo Campaign (http://igg.me/at/teachfarmyards) and help spread the word. Today's the last day in our campaign! While we won't reach our stretch goal, we would love to reach $5,000 by the end of our campaign tomorrow June 23rd. No contribution is too small whether it's $20, $500 or sharing the campaign with your friends on social media (sample posts included in the Ways You Can Help section below). Much appreciated - Stacey@bkfarmyards.com

    Why is this campaign important?

The problems of the American food system are well known. Many communities face high chronic disease rates and limited access to healthy foods. Our integrated food justice classes show teens how to address these as well as other food related issues specific to their own communities.

Everyone eats. But not everyone eats with knowledge of how food choices affect their health, their family and their community. By educating and involving teens in food related issues, we are creating a generation that understands and acts with knowledge. This is why we believe that today’s teens play a crucial role in creating a fair and sustainable food system that will support healthy communities for years to come.

    Our intention
Our plan is to help 25,000 high school students across the country receive hands-on learning about food systems, sustainability and justice by Labor Day 2016. To accomplish this, we will publish our 3-day lesson, activities and worksheets and get them into the hands of talented teachers. Every $30 you contribute will give one educator the tools she needs to reach 200 students next year.

What teens are saying about the curriculum

    What we need
We need your help to make these fantastic classes available in easy-to-use guides for educators nationwide. Every contribution helps. Your $20, $50, $100 or more will make a huge difference as we raise the support needed to share TEACH Farmyards nationwide.

    Ways you can help:
Contribute now and receive gifts in return!
Spread the word about #TEACHfarmyards on Facebook or Twitter.
Send this campaign to your own community and tell them why this education matters to you and future generations.

    Campaign page: http://igg.me/at/teachfarmyards
Sample Tweet: @BKFarmyards needs your urgent support to help 25,000 more #AmericanTeens choose #HolisticHealth. Contribute through http://igg.me/at/teachfarmyards

Sample FB message: Can you guess what happens when you support 25,000 teenagers get hands-on learning about food systems, sustainability and justice? - You create a sustainable model for a smarter, healthier nation. Contribute now and see your child and America #GrowHealthy http://igg.me/at/teachfarmyards
