Hi All,

I need tips on how to get my seedlings to grow. I have them in the house in our solarium because it is SO hot outside right now. I have cabbage, chard, spinach/chard etc. with their first set of leaves. I have already lost some due to too much water, thats my guess as they just fell over. Thanks

Oh! so now there is ANOTHER plant that I want! I am finding that the waiting is what makes me crazy... ok.. crazier. I have to wait for everything to grow and it seems that all of it takes years to produce. How old is this bush?

What a pleasure to see my first cucumber, peeking out from under green leaves. And there are tons of little cuc's growing!

You do have a wonderful voice, speak to all that will listen. I enjoyed it very much.

Good to know this before I add any oak to my garden beds. Best of luck with the fall planting and I feel your pain at not being able to munch your way though the garden in the AM as I do the same. FYI Sorrel does not go well with coffee! Haha

It takes the best partner to not really understand but still be there!

When we were looking for our new home the realtor was telling me that I could not and would not find a place with "everything" that I wanted! But here we are with great soil.... well It needs to be improved but I am up to it. Our/my plans are for getting the basic building done. We need the shed built but my husband also has plans to use the pines he took down to build me a small place to put the tools down in the garden which is far from the house.I would love a bee hut, pond and the green house made of windows would be epic! I have asked for SO much and he keeps giving.

I have ALWAYS wanted to live in the country and have a large garden full of food and lovely flowers. After waiting forever, we have retired and moved to the most wonderful home in the Sierras. My poor husband did not know that I have been planning and dreaming about this Food Forest for the 1 year before our move. I did not know that deer fencing was SO expensive but he had it done. He must have taken out 100 trees so that I can have the sun I need. Tons of work and he did it. I planted trees in his way, not wanting to wait, and he works around them. He's even learning the names and what they look like so when I say... "put some Diatomaceous earth on the peppers" he knows where to go. I love this guy.

So.. would you take it apart? I just checked it again and nothing in the traps and the 2 remaining plants are still there. I guess I caught the gopher and mole that were in there but....

I am over the first shock now so I can be calm and deal with it. Last fall I put a layer of chicken wire on the ground. Put logs on top of it, sticks, chips, compost, soil and planting mix. Then pulled the wire up about 10 inches all the way around. I then added the same wire around the bed and anchored it to 36 inch wood garden stakes on the outside. I would say that the sides are about 18-23 inches tall. This was to be my safe bed! No gophers or moles to eat and kill the plants. Since I did not tell the gophers of my plans they have gotten in and eaten everything. What I want to know is what would you do? Take it apart? I have caught one mole and one gopher in the bed. I have raked it smooth and waited for them to leave me some sign but there are no mounds. There is still a couple of plants left.
