Hi Folks,

My wife and I are planning a 1 week trip to North Carolina or South Carolina in July this year where we hope to look at a few parts of the state to see if we might like setting up a homestead there.

The general plan is to move out to a general area we like, get a 9 to 5 job and be renters until we can find place to buy and then over a few years, transition to full time homesteading with multiple revenue streams.

We're thinking somewhere within an hour or so from someplace where I can find work as an IT/SW Project Manager/Agile Scrum Master which is also in an area where we could have a few acres zoned for farming and raising animals.

Any suggestions on towns or counties we could look at would be greatly appreciated.

i'd love to help you help me, so please feel free to ask for more details.

Thanks,
Mike and Deb

Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Yeah, I was chatting with a few friends about that and they had similar suggestions.
Move it away from the Slab.
I'm learning. :)

I agree that the bucket is small.
I just don't think the HOA will let me put rain barrels around my home.
I'll check though.

The idea would be to empty them into a larger, more seclude barrel, when they filled up.
Better than nothing, I was thinking.

Take care,
Mike

Mullet Permaculture: Business in the front, Party in the back!!!

With regard to water catchment, would the idea I’ve illustrated here pose any risk to the slab or home in any way?

I’m trying to keep my mullet permaculture completely business like in appearance without doing something really dangerous and expensive.

i.e. i don't want to destroy my foundation, cause erosion, crack the slab, do something that would cost me $1000's of dollars to fix, etc.

If anyone has any knowledge in this area, please let me know.

Thanks.
