Living in the Columbia Gorge of the Pacific NW is amazing.  From our property you could walk to kite boarding, or salmon fishing.  Rivers with natural slides are a 15 minute drive from us.  Some of the best white water kayaking in the PNW is an easy commute from here.  Snowboarding/skiing is about 2hrs from driveway to lift line.  Ocean waves are about the same distance from here.  Basically, if you want to enjoy any/all of the best outdoor adventures of the PNW you can do it from our home without having to pack an overnight bag.

We're considering opening up one of our extra bedrooms to a like minded soul.  We're just not getting projects done as fast as we'd prefer and we have enough room to share our space.

Constructions skills will be just as important as doing your own dishes.  Willingness to weed a strawberry patch is just as important as respectful communication skills.

Our current project list includes a woodshed, deck, hot tub electrical installation, fencing.  Our 2023 projects include more raised beds, a large stationary chicken coop, grey water catchment, pond, etc.  Eventually we'll build a cob house in the back and turn this home into a duplex.

Our property is less than an acre and is walking distance to all of downtown and any basic amenities like post office, grocery, pharmacy, medical, dental, hardware, library, etc.  Currently we have a dog, cat, chickens, honey bees and mason bees.

We're willing to offset some measure of rent for work-trade.  The exact numbers and scenario will depend on the person.

Tell me a bit about yourself and why you think this might be a good fit for you.

We have almost an acre and lots of progress as well as plans.  We are still chained to our day jobs to support this dreamy life.  What we'd love is someone to live in their own tiny home / RV at the back of the property who is respectful of us as the decision-makers, pays their rent on time (and in full), is tech and video savvy to create the youtube content for our farm journey, and help out with projects.  In a world where so many are "giving up the rat race and wanting to have connection with the land" why is this person so difficult to find?

at Aaron Yarbrough - Thank you!  This is exactly the type of experiential information that we were hoping for.  This winter has been particularly brutal, the worst this little town has seen in about 30 years so the winterization and extra pump are suggestions we'll take to heart.

We're considering putting in a 3k gallon cistern to capture water off the house.  The cistern is a lot of money, the pumps, connecting piping/hoses and gauges all add to the cost, not to mention the hole that must be dug to place it in.  We have a vague understanding that we can do this project for approximately $5k and save no less than $1k in water costs per year.  Obviously this means we're doing right by the planet and our pocket books within 5 years assuming there isn't Any equipment failures before it pays itself off.  What is your experience with this sort of project, these sorts of equipments?  What lessons do you wish you had learned ahead of time?

OK, looks like the issue is I'm not using Google Earth Pro.  Considering they want me to download onto my computer I can't go any farther with it.  I appreciate the attempt folx

The view of what you pasted into your message looks to be exactly what I want and I can't figure out how to get there.  I'm So Frustrated...  Any tips?  I can't figure out where to even enter a date.  I finally found the "timelapse" version of Google Earth but it doesn't allow me to "see" closer than the whole town, let alone drop a person icon onto the property.  Obviously I'm on the wrong page or something, I've been trying the "Help" feature and it isn't getting me anywhere.

I need it from afar.  I downloaded SunSeeker (paid :( ) but it doesn't seem to do what I was hoping.

Does anyone know of an accurate sun tracking app that includes topography?

My partner and I are looking to buy a Small piece of property in Cascade Locks but are very concerned about the amount of sun it gets due to being nestled north of a mountain range, at the foot of it.  Obviously, full sun without impediment would be preferred but we are trying to figure out just how bad this area might be for gardening.  It gets a Lot of rain in Cascade Locks which I'm fine with but that, added to potentially consistent shade, needs to be a known versus unknown variable before we sign the mortgage documents.

Currently in Portland, OR in the Amazing PNW.  Preparing to buy land and want to build an Earthship and homestead.  Are you interested in joining me on this adventure?!

Do you already have the Earthship or homestead and just need a partner?

Lets go out for coffee/tea/beer and discuss!
