I'm writing a novel based on my great aunt's life during the 1960s. One major plot point is that she buys a gravel pit when the landowner doesn't realize there is gravel to be mined there. She turns it into a profitable business.
Since she passed on years ago, I'd love to talk to anyone else who can fill in some details about how gravel pit land is identified and what it would take to put it to work.
