Hello,
I'm new here and interested in design/building a timber frame + cordwood infill cottage in NY state.
I wonder if the O.P. Melody (or anyone else on the thread) has gone through a recent cordwood home build in the state?
I visited Rob Roy up at his Mushwood house near the QC border. I'd love to hear from others who have (perhaps more recently) gone through the process, and to hear their experience particularly on the code/permitting piece, plus general design/build practicals.
I've gathered that cordwood itself doesn't need to be a sticking point on code. But if I want to build small/compact (sub 1,000 sf), it seems IBC can be constraining in regard to stair sizes and other reqs— leading some folks to go the 'recreational cabin' route. I'm curious to hear how pursuing the 'three seasons cabin' route works out for folks, or not.
I'm also trying to learn more about the feasibility of composting toilets. Seems like laws/zoning are vague on when/where it is permissable to skip septic in favor of a composting privvy.
Thanks,
Jared
