Biography
Christopher Cobb is a writer, builder, and lifelong student of simplicity. He splits his time between creative work, spiritual practice, and skilled trades—especially carpentry and restoration. After years of wandering and reckoning with the deeper questions of life, he's come to value community, land-based living, and the kind of honesty that only comes from working with your hands.

Whether he's crafting a story, mentoring men, or repairing what's been broken—physically or otherwise—Christopher shows up with presence, heart, and a deep respect for the natural world. He's currently seeking aligned community, meaningful work-trade opportunities, and a place where both he and his son can grow in rhythm with something real.

Hello Permies community!

I am 52 years old, in great health and spirits, looking for the next adventure in my life.
Non drinker, no substances etc.
I am a carpenter by trade, as a writer, as well as a studio artist and creator. I love working with my hands and i have an appeal for how things look as well as form and function.
For the past several years I have been on a mission to be of service to humanity. Working in leadership at a retreat center in Orlando, as well as forming and running an east Coast mens organization where we had retreats and weekly meetups. Built a mentorship network for the center and helped start a low coast coaching program for people who have been through various experiences with retreats and other spiritual programs.
I am now at a part of my life where material gain seems fruitless, unless those gains are for the purpose of securing and thriving in a humble life. I am interested in working along side someone with similar interests, whether that be off grid, farming, or any other kind of projects and lifestyles.
I am easy going with a stoic disposition and I don't require much as long as i have my books, something to do daily and the ability to write and express myself. I enjoy solitude as well as engaging conversations. My music tastes are far from offensive and I eat modestly. I love all animals and call them all "nuggets".

What do you have going on that you could use some long term help with? Im excited to hear about it and see where I could potentially fit in.

Floating this out there for now in hopes it will resonate with somone in need and we can get some dialogue going about it.

Until then, be well Permies peeps!
Hello you guys! I sent a message to Paul's account rather than on here. It's a fairly detailed message and I'm hoping somone can track it down from last saturday and give me a shout! I very much look forward to hearing back from someone about what you have going on there and how i could potentially fit in!!
Good afternoon! My eyes definitely lit up when reading this.
My name is Christopher and I'm a very healthy, 52 year old man, currently living in SW US. I am a carpenter and creator with a passion for being outdoors and working in cooperation with nature.
I have reached the part of my life where I am called to make sacrifices in the material world for the sake of doing things with more meaning. For the past 8 or so years, I have deepened into what a "spiritual life" means to me.
I worked at a plant medicine retreat center in Orlando as a senior facilitator and associate minister. From there I founded a men's organization that spanned the East Coast, where I was the director and lead facilitator for retreats. I also became a transformational addiction recovery coach as well as psycho spiritual integration. Through those years I also studied various forms of therapies and am certified in several.
I say all of that to say that I accomplished my mission of being of service to humanity and those years will be cherished for the rest of my life. But now I'm craving more through less and my desire is to simply be useful and not so much important.
I have a very broad skill set and pick up on things quickly. I also enjoy taking care of and tending to animals.
One of the things that draws me to this post is that my sister lives in Anchorage and Alaska has always been a draw to me.
I'm trying to think of anything more I can add here but I think I e given enough to start with.
I look forward to hearing back from you and learning more about what you're up to with your project and possible ways of how I might be able to be useful there.
I hope you have a good weekend!

Father & Son Seeking New Chapter — Hands, Heart & Spirit in Service 🌿
(Follow-up to my earlier “Grounded Carpenter” post. This one goes deeper.)

My son and I are ready for a new chapter. One rooted in rhythm, honesty, and a return to what matters.

Three and a half years ago, he was hit by a car while riding his bike. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and a fractured skull. His healing journey included three months in the hospital with PT, OT, and speech therapy—as well as Lion’s Mane mushrooms, which I truly believe saved him. He was on narcotic pain meds for seven days until I convinced his team to let me take a different path. (There’s more to that story.)

Now, he’s recovered fully. And in the process, we grew closer than ever. That experience rewired both of us. It stripped everything down to the essentials: love, presence, and the time we still have. Since then, we’ve moved with more intention—more trust in what’s real and less tolerance for what’s not.

He’s 16 now—kind, goofy, grounded, and curious with his hands. He can drive a tractor, work confidently with motorized tools, and he’s genuinely eager to learn. His time away from public school has made reintegration challenging, so he’s open to new changes and adventures. He welcomes new landscapes. He thrives when he’s allowed to be authentic and pursue what brings him joy. He’s not looking to fit into a system—he’s looking to be part of something true.

As for me—I’m a skilled carpenter by trade, but my work and life have never been confined to one role. My hands know wood, stone, soil, and fire. I’ve repaired homes, built spaces of refuge, tended gardens, managed equipment, cleaned the bones of old structures, and created conscious art that speaks without words. I also work in the unseen—helping to clear energetic and emotional clutter, name what’s been buried, and guide others toward what wants to grow. Of course, those skills are reserved for the right situation—I’m not necessarily looking for that as work—but I do know how to create events and environments for that kind of transformation when the space is right.

I’ve led men’s retreats and founded a brotherhood built not on performance, but on presence—where truth could be spoken without masks and healing could begin without pretense. I’ve sat in silence with men who were breaking, and stood steady when storms moved through the circle. My leadership comes from lived experience, not a need to be followed—from fire walked, not just fire watched. What I offer is not charisma, but containment. A field where transformation can happen because someone is truly holding the line. I only share that to give a picture of the man I am and what I stand for—these aren’t offerings I’m trying to sell, just pieces of who I am.

I value stillness and quiet. I trust presence. And I believe in doing things right the first time—not perfectly, but with care and intention. My nature is steady, discerning, and aware. I don’t need to be the loudest voice or take up space at a podium—I just need to know that when I speak, it’s real. I bring with me a wide skillset, emotional clarity, and a readiness to serve where it counts—to be useful in a world full of people chasing titles.

What we’re seeking:

A place of sanctuary—land, rhythm, purpose, and aligned people

An intentional community or homestead open to work-trade

A living space in exchange for meaningful labor

Room for part-time work offsite and space to travel occasionally
(I get invited to facilitate at various retreats and limit this to a few times a year)

A setting where my son can thrive, contribute, create, and connect
(He loves music and playing drums)

It would be a gift for him to be among other teens or younger people—but it’s not a requirement, as long as there are activities and events within reach. He enjoys solitude as much as connection. What matters most is the tone of the place: honesty over hierarchy, harmony over hustle, presence over performance.

If you feel something reading this—something in your gut or chest—reach out. Let’s talk about what’s possible.
Let’s meet in the place where vision intersects with knowing.

With gratitude,
— Christopher and Jackson

I appreciate you sharing. Sounds like a grand adventure. But I'm afraid you're too far away and it isn't an ideal fit

Good luck making your reality come to life!

Thanks for your reply, not sure if I'm supposed to respond here before messaging you, so my apologies for doing it backwards if so. Haha

Happy Saturday!
