This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEM curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the wood badge in Woodland Care.

Now that you're starting to turn trees into building materials, let's "think outside the sawmill".  Maybe you don't have one yet.  Or maybe it can't cut a big enough beam for your next project.  Let's make some beams by hand!

Here's a guy making one with an "Alaska chainsaw mill" arrangement:

Minimum requirements:
  - Make eight beams
  - 6"x8"x12' or larger
  - Fairly parallel and straight
  - Rustic finish is fine
  - Chainsaws are allowed
  - Sawmills are not allowed

Provide proof of the following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - The logs you're starting with
  - Midway through making a beam with the tools shown
  - Finished beams with measurements
