I have been saving seeds for years. This is just so far this year.
I've grown ghost peppers to save the seed. Yellow onions, tomatoes...
I've saved the seed from the dill plant which is not pictured. I've saved the chives seeds also not pictured.
I save the seeds from the Boston pickling cucumbers from the Cucumbers that are pickled in a different thread.
There's a bunch of stuff that I've save seed from I should probably be more organized and resubmit to this thread but I'll submit what I have here.
So the tomatoes are separated: I boil , blanch, cut open and I strip out the seeds from the meat and I'm left with tomato meat, tomato juice, and tomato seeds.
I then put the tomato seeds with a little bit of water on the countertop, loosely covered, and I let them mold for at least 3 days until the entire surface has been molded for a while.
I scoop off the mold and I rinse the seeds really really really really well. And then scatter them out on a tray to dry for 2 or 3 days.
Once they are dry, I put them in paper envelopes and put them in the refrigerator for cold stratification. Usually after Christmas is when I start planting seeds in the basement in the seed starting area to have them ready to go by the middle of May.
For peppers, I strip them from the ribs and I put them in a small bit of water to see who floats and who sinks.
I separate the floaters and sinkers in separate packets and oftentimes, I'll plant the floaters just to see how many end up working out anyway. (I did that with acorns and about 50% of the floaters ended up sprouting. Topic for another day.)
Once they are dry they'll get their own paper packet and put in the refrigerator. I've also saved marigold seeds too; I think those are in a Tic Tac box.
There's also a pic of all the seeds we have, not just mine. The hubs saves native plant seeds when he heads out to the hills.
Come fall, the garage will be filled with hickory, acorns and black walnuts. Those get peat, not paper packets!!
