Warré to Perone beehive

so, I collected a large swarm last night. I hived them in a couple of mismatched Warré boxes, but I'm wanting to try a Perone hive. trouble is that I haven't built one yet, but I've got time today.

I'm thinking that I can nadir the brood nest and honey reserve portion of a Perone hive under one of the Warré boxes for this year. then next Spring, I would harvest the Warré box, and super the rest of the Perone hive.

how's that sound?

also: where could I find some guidelines for Perone dimensions? the dimensions of the boxes don't seem terribly critical, but I'm curious about spacing of the comb guides.

well, I built the brood chamber of a Perone hive. it's huge. the boards are 4 cm thick, and it may weigh over 100 lbs empty. good thing I'll never be moving that part. my sister took some pictures today, so I'll try to post those when she shares them with me.

I'm thinking I may skip trying to adapt the Warré boxes to this Perone and just cross my fingers that I'll get another prime swarm. tomorrow, I'm cutting out a hive that moved into a wall over the weekend. I haven't thought of a good way to put that in the Perone, though. maybe I'll just wing it.

I've had some mold problems with plywood in hives previously, so I avoid using it now (the glue/formaldehyde involved bothers me, too). those weren't Perone hives, though, so I'll be curious to hear how this hive works out. it would be great if you can keep us posted on the progress of the hive.

I probably could, but I don't know that I would. I'm not personally a fan of frame hives, and it doesn't seem like a good idea to build hives for others that I'm not familiar with myself. I might be talked into it, though.

depends on the thickness of wood desired. probably in the vicinity of $200, though.

these things are big, so if I were to ship one, I would suggest it be unassembled. cedar (Thuja plicata), is a fairly lightweight wood, but I imagine the assembled volume would add to the cost of shipping rather dramatically.

once the madness that is my October is over, I'll start building hives for a holiday special on both Warré's People's Hive and Perone's Automatic Hive. supposing I get my act together, I'll post about it in this forum.
