Hi everyone,
My name is Danny and I wanted to introduce myself! My wife and I have spent over a decade in the city (Nashville and LA), and have always talked about "when we're older" or "one day" moving to the country, and creating a peaceful place for writers and artists to come out and work on songs and records. That was before learning about permaculture, and since then we want to make sure we align with the permaculture principles while we create that place, while still making it a great retreat for artists.
Covid really put the most important things in perspective (along with stoicism), so we left the city, looked around and finally settled on a piece of land to steward in Wayne County, TN (Zone 7b). The land is challenging and needs a lot of love, but we're just taking a day and a step at a time. Everything I've read cautions us to take the first year to really observe the land and make no big changes.
We both originally found out about permaculture through YouTube, I believe it was Happen Films. Since then, I've watched and read all I can get my hands on, Permaculture Principles & Pathways, RetroSuburbia, and working my way down the list. Somewhere in there, I found permies, and I've been perusing from afar until today. I still have so much to learn, so I will be asking a lot of (most likely) dumb questions. : )
