When is it? Sat. October 13th - Sun. October 14th 2012
What is it? The Windward community is hosting a small autumn get together on it's 130 acre's in south central Washington. We anticipate maybe 20-30 people being there at max. We get many people wanting to come out and visit us and see what we're doing; So we've put together a couple of events throughout the years to provide people with an opportunity to visit, without disrupting the flow of our daily life as stewards of the forest.
A Potluck is on Saturday night, followed by a fire, entertainment, music, and a chance to celebrate together the ripening bounty in all our lives-- what we are grateful for, the harvests ripe for the picking, the new growth that is ready fall down or wither back, and the fruits of the passions of our lives. The fire is also to honor loved ones past.
On Sunday morning, I will be slaughtering and processing a goat for those who are interested in being a part of this annual rite and ritual. There have been many people who have said they wanted to be a part of this process, and so here we are accomidating that request. You can see first hand how it is to handle and lead a large animal into death. I take care of these animals everyday, and as such I take their killing to heart, and have trained myself to be able to give them a good death while they are in a calm space.
The event is being hosted through Windward's 40 acre camp ground, and admition is $5 for the weekend to help cover the basic costs of hosting the event.
