I'd like to remind the community here to plant two crops this fall for food next summer: potato onions and garlic.
Potato onions are perennial because the bulbs multiply, and you can eat some, saving the rest to plant in the ground each fall for a multiplied crop the following summer.
Garlic, of course, does the same thing, as you can save a clove from one bulb and plant it in the fall, getting a whole new bulb the next summer.
I've shared details on what, why, and how to over at our
Brunette Gardens Substack.
We recently shared our garden with hundreds of people on a sustainable garden tour, and not one of them knew about potato onions. Why is this fabulous plant not better known?
Also, my bulbs produce seed heads every year, which is apparently a rare event. Has anyone else had this happen?
