We are a group of motivated young people in their late 20s and early 30s with a farm in Bassett, VA. The property is about 70 acres and nestled in a beautiful valley with a creek running through the middle. There is a barn with power, irrigation, several hoop houses, pasture, and woodland. Since none of us live there full time, we are seeking someone or a couple/small family who is interested in living there and helping get the farm in working order. We are focusing on perennial systems, rotational grazing, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, however you want to label it, just responsible, chemical-free stewardship.

There are three 1 bedroom houses on the property, and we are in the process of designing a cob house which will provide more housing. We also have a bunch of solar panels which we are hoping to store so folks with renewable energy knowledge would be very welcome! LGBTQ+ friendly and we hope to encourage a diverse, peaceful environment where community can come together. Currently, there are nine owners and we operate under a sociocratic, consent-based decision making model where all big decisions are discussed equally. This isn't an intentional community or commune but it is a group endeavor which we hope to share with others.

We want to make our property/housing as accessible as possible to others so we are very open to flexible financial arrangements but would like to prioritize housing someone who is actively interested in the management styles listed above. I'm sure there is lots more to say but I don't want to overwhelm here. Happy to discuss more if you are interested.

Hi. I'm an interdisciplinary biologist, Nicoli Tesla enthusiast and an overall inclined guy. I have a Newfoundland dog. We've been stranded in Akron Ohio after an international divorce for the past 3 years and it is no place to be. I am looking for a situation where I can put all my passions to work with some like minds. Seems I may be a good fit.

Is this opportunity still available?

Hi! My name is Peter. I saw your posting on permits and was interested in more information about joining your community in the next 1-2 months. I’d be happy to know anything and everything about what the space is like, what would be expected of me, and what I would have to contribute initially. I’m hard-working and willing to learn, and serious about this sort of lifestyle. Please e-mail me back anytime.
