I wouldn't recommend pruning, mostly you just let an avocado grow as it will. Some are more upright, some more bushy. Usually they are only pruned to keep them shorter for harvesting, or to clear the aisles between rows in an orchard, but not for form/shape the way things like peaches or apples are pruned. At the size of that tree, I wouldn't think about pruning yet.
I hope this isn't too off topic, but what size is the pot? I bet it's ready for a big pot. By the end of year two all my trees are either going in the ground or into 15+ gal pots, I've found their growth often suffers when their roots start to fill the pot, and it happens more quickly than you might expect. Avocados like to have roots going both deep and wide.
