What a huge wasteful effort just to flavor bland meat . They should just grow happy chickens.

Although I agree that happy chickens taste better I also see some potential in it. Werther you like it or not a big portion of the public just wants cheap bitesized chunks of something that tastes like chicken which they can drown in sauce.
There are already people creating alternatives to meat from Lupine and Soy that taste more like chicken than cheap supermarket chicken:

I'd rather have that people eat this instead of cheap chicken.

That stuff does not look too bad ! What the heck is it ? Textured Vegetable protein I imagine. I still agree with Michael Pollan - If your grandmother could not have made it in her home kitchen , don't eat it. I am no purist though , I'd rather eat that stuff than a BigMac.

Quite a kick but some interesting news from the university of Maastricht. They actually managed to grow meat in a lab an make a burger out of it.

There was an item on the news over it, I put it trough a translation engine so you can get an idea what's it about. I'm sure that after the presentation on Monday English sources will pick it up:

Food shortage is one of the problems of a growing world population, especially when even the Chinese and Africans like meat on their plates. A possible solution is cultured meat from stem cells of real animals. The first edible burger cultured meat is made in Maastricht.

additional planet
To provide meat future 9 billion people we need later. Additional planet If we continue to produce at least in the usual way, by our meat animals to breed and slaughter. With cultured meat we're not longer dependent.

Edible cultured meat
The process to create stem cells from animal breeding meat has been around longer. The big advantage is that with just a handful of cells you can make thousands of pounds of meat. Soon What is new is that there is an edible burger is made, which can actually be eaten.

mysterious patron
That happened at the University of Maastricht. Vascular physiologist Mark Post is there the man behind the cultured meat. His scientific project so far with 800,000 euro backed by one of the 50 richest people in the world. Whoever that is, is still secret, but will be announced next week during the presentation of the first breeding edible meat burger in London.
more investors

The mysterious investor puts his role and his ideas about the project. The hope is that more investors thereby connecting, making the development of cultured meat can go faster.
